About Me
Who is Timbuktu Books?
Timbuktu Books is an online vintage and antiquarian book business located in Seattle, Washington. My offerings are focused on travel, adventure, history, and exploration. I also sell many other types of nonfiction, as well as literature, first editions, leather-bound volumes, author-signed volumes, original manuscripts, and images. I’m particularly interested in old books and photos of China and other parts of Asia, Africa and the West.
I’m Susan Eggleton, and I got into bookselling about 17 years ago. I had traveled widely and, on returning home, often wanted to see how the places I’d been had looked in years past. I began buying antiquarian books – and it grew from there. I enjoy bringing a view of the past to others who are curious or who seek a meaningful gift for friends and family.
I am a member of the International Online Booksellers Association (IOBA).
The name Timbuktu Books represents the far-flung places that fascinate me – as well as the wide-ranging sentiments and thoughts associated with great literature.
I’ve been fortunate in that, after having earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Washington, my career led me into international marketing where I spent many years engaging with all kinds of people and cultures. Happily, this professional background contributed to my love of old books and the fascinating historical time capsules they have become.
Half of my library are old books because I like seeing how people thought about their world at their time.

Our Outlets
In addition to taking great care in selecting old books, manuscripts, and images, we’re also picky about giving you an excellent purchasing experience. That’s why we sell through outlets with 24/7 access, secure payment facilities, excellent shipping, reliable sales policies, and genuine customer service.
Shop our main store on ebay
The majority of our collection — antique books, manuscripts, and maps — is showcased at our eBay store. There, you can buy easily, and your order gets our immediate and personal attention. You’ll always get a note from me confirming your order.
Stock your personal rare book library
AbeBooks is where the best independent booksellers list their books. Libraries, bookstores, and avid readers all use AbeBooks as a primary source of rare book discovery, and that’s why we’re proud to have our online shop under their umbrella.
We Buy Books
We’re interested in buying older, collectible, and signed books in good condition, as well as old manuscripts, albums of photographs, journals and diaries, and other historical material. Our special interests include travel and exploration – particularly Asia, Africa, Alaska and the Northwest, and travel narratives related to history and Americana. We appreciate attractive leather-bound and decorative volumes. We limit our travel to view private libraries to within Western Washington State at this time.
